I saw Jim Lohman's note in The Tiger Gazette about the trip to Nha Trang and Ban Me Thout in July '65. I had not seen the ongoing conversation about that mission. I too was on that mission flying with one of the slick platoons having arrived in country that month. I have a number of pictures of refueling on the way, sleeping the choppers along side of the strip at Ban Me Thout and shots of Route 17 between Nha Trang and Ban Me Thout from altitude. We did work an insertion with South Viet troops and I was flying with Pat Gillian. (Pat passed away a few years ago.) On one lift from the staging field right after lunch, we had a mortar squad on board and almost wore the skids down to a nub trying to get translational lift. We skimmed through the elephant grass with the low RPM warning going and then on landing in the LZ it was not much better with the low RPM warning going full blast. We did a little seat repair and trouser cleaning from the pucker factor on the return from that one.

It is most discouraging for Americans to ban patriotism toward our own country. Is ABC run by someone loyal to another country! I say;" fly the flag they are loyal to". At least show us their true colors!
